Blurry Reels and Lucky Guesses: We Made Five Casino Regulars Play a Pub Quiz About Nine Win's Own Lobby

There's a particular kind of confidence that comes from playing the same slots every night. You know the bonus round jingle off by heart. You can spot the scatter symbol from across the room. But could you identify your favourite game from a screenshot blurred within an inch of its life?
We weren't sure either. So we grabbed five regulars from our reader panel — all of whom play at Nine Win at least a few times a week — bought a round of crisps, and ran it like a proper pub quiz round.
The Rules of the Round
Three question types, twenty points up for grabs:
- Blurred screenshots — one point for the game name, no half marks for shouting "one of the fishing ones"
- RTP hints — we read out a game's return-to-player figure and a one-line description; two points for a correct guess
- Feature forensics — describe the bonus mechanic without naming the game ("expanding wilds with a respin," "a wheel that splits into three tiers") and see who clocks it first
Contestants: Dave, a forty-something fruit machine loyalist from Leeds; Priya, who plays live casino on her commute; Jordan, a sports bettor who dabbles in slots during the football; Megan, our only self-described "bonus hunter"; and Tom, who claims he's "not that into it" despite logging in most evenings.
Round One: The Blurred Reels
You'd think this would be the easy bit. It wasn't.
Dave identified a classic three-reel fruit slot from what was essentially a smear of cherries, which tracks. Megan went three-for-three on modern video slots, correctly naming a popular fishing-themed title and a megaways entry from nothing but colour palette and symbol shapes.
Priya, meanwhile, got zero. "They all look the same blurred," she protested, which, to be fair, is a point worth making. When the pixels go, so does the branding — and that says something about how much the lobby leans on recognisable art styles rather than genuinely distinct gameplay.
Round Two: The RTP Guessing Game
This was the round that separated the casuals from the spreadsheet merchants.
We read out "96.6% RTP, tumbling reels, increasing multiplier on free spins" and Megan had her hand up before we'd finished the sentence. Dave guessed "one of them Bonanza types," which we gave a sympathy point for.
The most revealing moment? When we read out the RTP of Nine Win's most-played live blackjack table, four out of five contestants had no idea what the house edge on their regular game actually was. Jordan's guess was off by nearly two percent — a big margin when you're playing hundreds of hands a month.
The lesson: people know their favourite games' vibes far better than their maths. If you're one of them, our RTP-sorted slot guide is worth ten minutes of your evening.
Round Three: Feature Forensics
The descriptions round produced the quiz's best moment. When Tom described "the one where the bloke with the rod casts and you pick the fish," every other contestant named the same game within seconds. It turns out there's a shared shorthand among regulars that no marketing copy has managed to replicate.
Megan swept the round again. Tom, despite starting it, finished last overall.
The Final Leaderboard
| Position | Contestant | Score |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Megan | 17/20 |
| 2 | Dave | 12/20 |
| 3 | Jordan | 10/20 |
| 4 | Tom | 8/20 |
| 5 | Priya | 6/20 |
Megan's prize was the leftover crisps and, in her words, "bragging rights until Cheltenham." Fair enough.
Run Your Own Round
Fancy testing your local? Here's a five-question starter you can print off:
- Blurred screenshot: a sea of purple and gold, Egyptian symbols everywhere — name the game
- RTP hint: 96.5%, wild multipliers, mining theme
- Feature: "A money collect symbol, and the fisherman pays for the lot"
- RTP hint: 99%+ — and it's not a slot
- Feature: "A wheel. Three tiers. You know the one."
(Answers are all in Nine Win's lobby — consider it homework.)
What We Actually Learned
Beyond the banter, the quiz surfaced something genuinely useful: regulars build deep familiarity with a handful of games and stay hazy on the rest. Four of our five panellists named the same three titles as their go-tos, and all five struggled with anything outside their usual section.
That's not a criticism — it's just how people play. But if you've been spinning the same two slots since March, the quiz is a decent excuse to have a proper scroll through the lobby. You might find your next regular hiding two pages in.
And if your own score would embarrass Tom? Maybe spend less time on the reels and a bit more reading the paytable. Just a thought.
